What is a departmental exam and why is to important?

A departmental exam is a test made by the government and given to all students in the NWT and Alberta on the same day. After the students have written the exam, it is mailed to Edmonton where it is marked by government people. For example, on January 14th at 9:30 am all students in the NWT and in Alberta that are taking grade 12 English 30 will write a departmental exam. Departmental exams are very important to students wanting to go to College or university because the colleges and universities will get your child's marks and use them to decide if they will accept your child to study at their college or university or whether they will reject their application. Right now, English 30 is the only departmental exam that Moose Kerr students write, but soon the government will require them to write grade 12 departmentals in Social Studies and Science.
