It is important to apply to Residence early because the places fill up quickly. You can apply to Residence before you are accepted into a program at Grant Macewan. If you wait until you are accepted into a program at MacEwan and until you find out if you have funding, it will be too late to get into Residence because all the rooms will be taken. So you need to apply to residence in early April. You will need to pay a $50.00 fee at that time to apply. This $50.00 application fee is non-refundable. After you are accepted into Residence you receive a letter or an email that asks you to pay a $500.00 security deposit so that the Residence can officialy guarantee your place. I know that it seems scary to pay $500.00 before you find out if you are going to get funding or not, but you can get a 100% full refund of that $500.00 if you are refused funding from INAC or SFA. If you want to confirm this before you send your $500.00 away you can contact Clint Galloway who is the Manager of Residence (see the Directory of People Page on this website). Usually students cannot get a full refund but he has written a new policy especially for northern students to allow him to give a full refund if the student does not come due to not getting funding.
To apply to Residence you need to go to the Grant MacEwan Residence webpage. This page contains information for different kinds of students wanting to apply to Residence. You are a "New Applicant" because you have never lived in Residence before. You are also a "Domestic Student" because you are from Canada. You need to apply to both the Fall and Winter Terms because you want to live in residence from Sept to December and also from Jan to April. You need to find the section of the web page that is for New Applicants and Domestic Students and then click on the link to Fall & Winter Terms. You can pay online using Visa or Mastercard, or by mailing a cheque or money order to the university.
You start by going to this page:

If you have any questions about how to do this you can call the Residence Manager, Clint Galloway. Clint is incredibly helpful and very, very interested in helping high school students from the north come to the Residence. He really helped me with Trudy and Stephanie. His phone number and email is on the Directory of Helpful People Page on the main page to this blog.
